Position Overview: The Annual Conference Publication Editor is responsible for compiling, designing, and publishing the official records (PreConference Journal, Journal, Directory) of the Arkansas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
The Pre-Conference Journal is an informational guide that helps voting members and attendees prepare for participation in the Arkansas Annual Conference. It contains logistics, rules, reports, and other required information for informed decision-making on Annual Conference matters.
The Journal is the official report of the Annual Conference and includes key information such as conference proceedings, business reports, appointments, statistics, memorials, and directories of clergy and churches. Designed as a comprehensive reference, the Journal documents the work and witness of our ministry each year. (BOD ¶606)
The Directory is a printed copy of the names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers of ARUMC churches and clergy for the upcoming year.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the team of volunteers and staff who prepare and collect reports, ensuring publication deadlines are met
- Design the Pre-Conference Journal, Journal, and directory to meet expectations as expressed by the Book of Discipline, the Bishop and the Annual Conference Secretary
- Must be able to manage multiple projects at once and keep teams updated on progress and requests
- Must be able to use technology to streamline processes
- Must attend all Annual Conference Planning Team meetings (quarterly)
- Must attend each session of the Annual Conference in June (expenses covered by the ARUMC)
- Must be able to troubleshoot and research solutions
Administrative Duties:
- Ability to communicate clearly via email, phone calls, and facilitate Zoom meetings
- Ability to utilize project management software to keep everyone organized (preferably the Monday platform)
- Must understand email etiquette for communicating with multiple groups, with and without supervisory input
- Ability to design templates for users to streamline processes
Supervision Received: This position will report to the Director of Connectional Ministries / Director of Communication.
Supervision Exercised: This position will oversee the relationship with the printing/mailing company
Qualifications & Skills Required:
Experience using Adobe InDesign (Training can be provided for refresher skills)
3-5 years of project management experience
3-5 years of publishing experience (print and digital)
Experience managing contractors (budgeting, timelines, invoicing, etc. )
Experience in advertising sales is a plus
Eye for details and skill for leading volunteer team to meet deadlines
Deep understanding of the Arkansas Annual Conference and its policies and protocols as dictated by the Book of Discipline and the Bishop
