Native American Ministries Sunday, May 4

Greetings from the Arkansas Conference Committee on Native American Ministry. We wanted to remind you that Sunday May 4th is Native American Ministry Sunday.

Contributions from your congregation help develop and strengthen Native American ministries within each United Methodist annual conference and provide scholarships for Native Americans pursuing ordained or licensed ministry.

Our conference Committee on Native American Ministry has provided cultural education to the annual conference through events like Veritas and Mission U, led cultural immersion trips to Oklahoma and the OIMC, and provided funding to the American Indian Center of Arkansas.

How to give: Write a check to your local church and write “Native American Ministries Sunday offering” in the memo line. To give online or set up monthly giving, go to donate.gcfa.org/NAMS.

Here is a prayer and a bulletin insert (download here) you can use to celebrate Native American Ministry Sunday.

Prayer By Rev. Delana Taylor, Cherokee, Ordained Deacon, OIMC

Creator God, as you have gathered us in generations past, lead and guide us this day

as we seek your wisdom and your vision for our people.

Give us eyes to see one another as you see us,

people of one God,

connected to one another and to you

In all our relations, and in your son Jesus.

Give us ears to hear the wisdom of our elders

and the laughter of our children.

Give us words of blessing and healing for a hurting world.

Open our hearts and lead us on the path of peace.

We stand together on sacred ground with grateful hearts,

knowing that the One who promises is faithful and true.

Amen.
