Rev. Mark McDonald and the leadership of QQUMC
Stone Soup is a weekly hot meal served at Quapaw Quarter UMC in Little Rock, and we are in our 40th year of continuous service to those who are hungry or food insecure in downtown Little Rock. The name is from the children’s book of that title, and it tells the story of a community that starts with a pot of water and a stone; yet when everyone contributes what they have, there is more than enough for all.
Over the years individual volunteers, confirmation classes, youth groups, Disciple Bible studies, and Sunday School classes have supported this ministry. Since COVID, six churches have maintained this ministry, and we are reorganizing to continue for many years to come. Currently, we serve 100 hot meals every week to our neighbors.
As our Annual Conference is finding renewal and revival, we are flinging open the doors to this ministry to invite you to join us in this ministry. It costs us approximately $15,000 and includes over 2,000 volunteer hours each year to serve these meals. There are several ways you can help:
- Fund a week with a donation of $250
- Make a regular contribution to fund this ministry
- Send a team of 8 (or more) to cook and serve the provided foods
- Help us purchase, pick up, and organize food and supplies
- Donate food, supplies, or funds from your business
Having a regular commitment is best (monthly or bi-monthly), but we want everyone to be able to experience the blessings of serving our neighbors. If you would like to learn more or help us move forward, please contact Bobbi Pitts at (501) 960-4281 or bobbi.pitts@gmail.com.
