Obituary – Rev. Vaughn Douglas Marsden

On Sunday, July 14, 2024, Reverend Vaughn Douglas Marsden walked into the arms of Jesus. Vaughn was born on May 22, 1947, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania to Harry Marsden and Gertrude Marsden Oakley. 

Vaughn grew up in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. He attended Lambuth College in Jackson, Tennessee with a degree in education and became a high school history teacher in Sikeston, Missouri. In 1975, he married Lynda MacBride. After their marriage, Vaughn was called to go to seminary and became a United Methodist Minister. During his ministry, he was the Conference Coordinator for the North Arkansas Conference Council on Youth Ministries and the Jurisdictional Coordinator for the South Central Jurisdictional Youth Ministries Organization. He loved youth ministries. This led him to take many youth tour trips to Washington DC and New York City and many youth events.  

Vaughn loved the Arkansas Razorbacks and New York Yankees, and he loved to fish. His favorite was trout fishing on the Little Red. He always had a great fish story. He learned to tie his own flies and made many. Vaughn loved his family and was a strong Christian man. He had a very sarcastic sense of humor and was loved by many. Vaughn was the best dad, “Bain,” brother, and uncle.

Vaughn is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Jo Marsden and Donald and Gertrude Oakley, his wife, Lynda MacBride Marsden, John and Lenora MacBride, and his son-in-law, Wade Hall.

Vaughn is survived by his daughters, Annalisa Hall of Clinton, Arkansas, and Reagan (Aaron) Smith of Sherwood, Arkansas; one grandson, Kalyn Clemons of Clinton, Arkansas; three granddaughters, Kendall Pounds of Clinton, Arkansas, Adalyn Hall of Clinton, Arkansas, and Savannah Smith of Sherwood, Arkansas; one great-granddaughter, Chealzea Clemons of Clinton, Arkansas; his sisters, Sharlyn (Dave) Krok of Greenfield Township, Pennsylvania, Faith Cook of Bowie, Maryland and Darlene (Rev. Bob) Smith of St. Joseph, Michigan, his brothers, Kevin Marsden of Scranton, Pennsylvania and Donald (Theresa) Oakley of Ashland, Pennsylvania, aunts, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Clinton United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be at Spires Cemetery at a later date.
