The Stewpot at First UMC Magnolia celebrates 40 years

Recently, the Stewpot at First United Methodist Church in Magnolia celebrated its 40th birthday with a fundraiser take-out meal of chicken spaghetti, purple hull peas, salad, and dessert — the first meal that was served 40 years ago. The fundraiser was a huge success with the community purchasing over 700 tickets!

In 1983, this non-profit started as a mission project to serve hot meals to the food insecure in Magnolia/Columbia County. The first year they served 5,500 meals.  The Stewpot now serves over 21,000 meals per year to anyone who asks. So far in 2023, from January through November, The Stewpot served 3,724 meals to those under 18 years old; 11,711 meals to those 19-59 years old; and 4,741 for those over 60 years old.

The Stewpot relies on charitable contributions, grant money, private donations, and canned food drive fundraisers.
