Salem UMC: Sending Kids to Camp Tanako with Home-Made Rolls

The Children and Youth ministry at Salem UMC in Benton is already thinking ahead to warmer summer months, where approximately 10 youth and children from the church will attend summer camp at Camp Tanako.

Beginning around Thanksgiving and through Christmas, the youth and children of the church made homemade yeast rolls as fundraiser with the sole purpose to send kids to camp.

All of the young people and some pretty awesome adults worked in the church kitchen in stations to prepare the yeast rolls and then get them settled into freezers until they were sold.

This is the third year that they have hosted this fundraiser and each one continues to be more successful than the year previous. They prepared and sold 176 dozen rolls and made $2,112 for camp tuition during this holiday season.

Lori Canada, the director of Family Ministries at Salem UMC, who spearheaded the event, shared that valuable partnerships helped the bottom-line collections this year: Harps Grocery donated the ingredients for the rolls and the Front Porch Market kept the rolls stocked at their shop.

In closing I can attest to the delicious taste and perfect size of the rolls!  I will definitely be ordering more next time they are offered.

Camp Tanako registration is now open for spring and summer camps!
