I want to let you know about a prayer effort that you’re invited to join during the season of Lent. As we prepare for the upcoming General Conference, your conference board of discipleship has created a set of prayer resources for us to use together. They’ve taken the theme of the General Conference, which comes from Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God,” and they’ve developed both a recorded prayer and a call to worship focused on each word of that verse. The calls to worship will be available at the link below/on the conference website, and the recorded prayers will be posted weekly. More prayer resources will be shared as we move toward and through the General Conference itself.
In addition, I’ll be leading a brief time of prayer on Zoom, every Thursday of Lent, beginning on February 22 at 8:00 am. All are welcome to join in that time.
I trust that when we pray together, we make room for the Holy Spirit to work on us and to prepare us for what God is intending to do. The days ahead of our church are full of hope and potential. I look forward to this chance to pray together with you.
Talking Points from the Board of Discipleship
- The purpose of this prayer initiative, why you asked the Board of Discipleship to lead the conference in prayer leading up to the General Conference
- What congregations can expect throughout Lent: A short weekly prayer video on the conference Facebook Page, a short liturgy and prayer that has been prepared by the Board of Discipleship to be used either in worship or in some other manner that your church leaders have determined, and anything the Bishop has planned as well.
- Both the weekly Facebook prayers and liturgy will continue after Easter and leading up to April 23.
- During the 11 days of the General Conference, April 23-May 3 the Board of Discipleship will lead prayers specific to the GC’s daily agenda on the conference Facebook page. Also, include anything the Bishop may have planned for that period.
- Anything that the Bishop would like to see the laity and clergy of our conference doing from now through GC.
