Obituary – Jack Lasey

Jack “J” Thomas Lasey, 97, passed away on November 11, 2023, at Baptist Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Jack was born March 31, 1926, in Mulberry, Arkansas to Ruby (Trotter) and Ramos Lasey. After graduating from Pleasant View High School in 1944, Jack enlisted in the US Army and served in Korea during World War II. Jack worked in management for Swift and Co. Meats for 37 years. Jack and his wife Margrett have been members of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fort Smith since 1951 where he was active in the Pathfinders Sunday School class and the United Methodist Men’s Group and coached church league baseball. 

Jack is survived by his wife of 75 years, Margrett Hargrove Lasey; his children, Jack Terrell Lasey (Sandy) and Ruby Janet Bassham (David); his grandchildren, Shelby Grubbs (Daniel), Lacy Cook (Justin), Jay Lasey (Chelsea), and Mallory Smith (Andrew); his great-grandchildren, Ali Parsons, Makayla Baker (Drew), Blake Grubbs (Sarah), Kyah Grubbs, Stella and Paige Lasey, Ruby and Hudson Cook, and Ollie and Samuel Smith; and his great-great-grandchildren, Nolan and Quinn Parsons. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Fisher; and his nephews, Ricky and Ronnie Fisher.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 17 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Fort Smith with burial to follow at New Cemetery in Mulberry. Visitation with the family will be held at 10 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral service. Pallbearers include Jay Lasey, Daniel Grubbs, Justin Cook, Andrew Smith, Drew Baker, and Blake Grubbs. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jack’s memory to St. Paul United Methodist Church (4100 Grand Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72904).
