Obituary – Rev. Stephen Anderson

Stephen Anderson, age 69, of Drummonds, passed away on Friday, March 10, at Methodist North Hospital. He was born in Dallas, Texas to the late James D. Anderson and Peggy Lorice Smith Anderson.

Growing up in Dallas, Stephen attended T. G. Terry Elementary School, W. H. Atwell Jr. High School, and graduated from David W. Carter High School with the class of 1971. He attended Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in 1972, earned an Associate of Liberal Arts from Mountain View College in 1973, and a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Texas in 1981. In 1995, Stephen began Course of Study School with Hendrix College, and while attending, served the local Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Conway, Arkansas. He later attended Memphis Theological Seminary, and earned his Master of Divinity Degree in 2002, serving as student pastor to two churches during that time. He became an ordained minister with the United Methodist Church and served Fakes Chapel UMC in McCrory, Arkansas, and White Hall UMC, in White Hall, Arkansas from 2007 until 2021.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his beloved wife of 22 years, Mimi Jill Anderson; his daughter, Sarai (Brad) Nelson; his son, Samuel (Kelsey) Anderson; his granddaughter, Annie Nelson; his sister, Sharon L. Johnson; his brother, Scott Anderson, and his nephew, Tyler Anderson.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 14 at 11 a.m. in the Covington Funeral Home chapel, with interment to follow in Helen Crigger Cemetery in Munford, TN. Visitation for friends and family will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Meredith Cavin will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Anderson’s memory to the National Kidney Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
