Role and Focus
The Director of Youth Ministries will develop the overall youth program at Central. Coordinate, implement, and build a dynamic youth program focused on Christian development for youth in grades 6 through 12.
Supervision and Team Alignment
- Reports to the Executive Director of Program Ministries
Expectations
- Participate in the Means of Grace and opportunities for Spiritual development
- Have a deep faith in Jesus Christ and seek to live that faith in his/her everyday life
- Participate in weekly meetings, occasional leadership retreats, and relevant ad-hoc meetings
- Lead a team of adults and youth to carry out the core principles for youth ministry at Central
- Engage youth ministry as a part of the greater whole at Central, flowing within the mission and vision of the broader church
- Supervise adult and youth volunteers participating in the youth ministry, and will support the youth program of the church along with a team of adult and youth leaders
Essential Functions
- Provide the youth with events that allow for fellowship, evangelism, discipleship, worship and mission
- Plan, participate in, and supervise worship services for youth
- Provide strategic planning and vision for youth ministry

- Constant pursuit of personal and professional growth
- Reach out to non-church youth and develop a plan to encourage youth to participate in ministry opportunities
- Build relationships with, teach, counsel, and nurture youth into deeper walks with Christ, and recruit, train, and empower adult and youth leaders to do the same
- Support and participate with clergy on the annual Confirmation Class for 8th-Graders
- Seek opportunities for impacting ministry beyond Central
- Work as a team player with ministry staff and volunteers
- Recruit, train, and support adult volunteers and youth leaders
- Communicate regularly with youth, parents, and congregation
- Plan, organize, and supervise fundraising events for youth mission trips
- Manage the youth ministry budget in coordination with the Church Administrator
- Ensure all working with youth are Safe Gatherings certified and abide by the Safe Gatherings policy of Central UMC
- Use of the following programs: Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Teams and current church management software.

- Christian committed to youth ministry
- Desire to see youth grow as worshippers and Disciples of Christ
- Ability to organize thoughts and tasks
- Ability to communicate to youth, peers, staff, parents and volunteers
- Have a creative, enthusiastic, flexible, dedicated and highly motivated personality
- Ability to effectively recruit, train, and inspire volunteers who will support and enhance the overall program
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred
- Musical skills are helpful but not mandatory
- Creative design and social media experience are helpful but not mandatory
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist as requested as part of the ministry team of Central
Time and Pay
- For Wage-Hour purposes the Director of Youth Ministries is a full-time salaried exempt employee
