Accountability

The Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries reports directly to the Pastor and is accountable Church Council through the Staff-Parish Relations Chair.

Responsibility

The Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries is primarily responsible for developing, coordinating and overseeing ministries for youth students and their families with the love of Jesus Christ at Lonoke First United Methodist Church.  Secondary duties are to coordinate children’s activities.

Duties

  • Lead youth Sunday School class and lead youth activities (currently on Sunday evenings).
  • Plan and schedule youth programs and events making sure all programs are in line with United Methodist beliefs, polity, and heritage.
  • Engage youth in local missions including Family Resource Center (Food Pantry), The CALL, and others.
  • Participate with ARUMC youth events including Veritas, Assembly, and OMP.
  • Participate in Central District youth activities at least once a year.
  • Form a youth advisory board made up of parents and volunteers who meet monthly to help plan and support the ministry of youth.
  • Organize and lead regular youth trips (fun trips and missions trips).
  • Create and maintain Lonoke FUMC Youth Facebook, Instagram and other social media as needed.
  • Encourage and coordinate volunteers.
  • Ensuring that all volunteers are Safe Gatherings certified.
  • Attend all staff meetings and Church Council meetings to represent Lonoke FUMC youth.
  • Work with Children’s Ministry volunteers to plan Children’s activities throughout the year including Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, Backpack Blessing (Back to School), Fall Festival/Trunk-or-Treat.

Qualifications

  • Professes and shows evidence of faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Demonstrates passion for leading youth students into a relationship with Jesus.
  • Uses good communication, organization and time-management skills.
  • Effectively uses skills with modern technology and social media
  • Must be Safe Gatherings certified.
  • Member in good standing in the United Methodist Church for a minimum of one year. This requirement may be waived for candidates that demonstrate knowledge of Wesleyan theology and practices.

Additional Information

  • This is part-time and the primary hours will be Sunday mornings and evenings. In addition, the job requires hours that are spent in preparing and planning curriculum, communicating with parents and youth, and participation in District and Conference events.
  • Due to programming responsibilities and interaction with the students, regular church attendance is required.
  • Three-weeks paid vacation will be allotted with no more than three Sundays off each year.
  • One continuing education course in your ministry area will be required annually with reimbursement after prior approval.
  • Any grievance by the employee will be heard by the Staff Parish Committee of Lonoke First United Methodist Church, supervised by the pastor.
