Reports to Senior Pastor

The Director of Communications will support Asbury UMC’s mission, vision and ministries through internal and external means of communication. Through print, social media and other means, this person will help connect Asbury UMC with the community within and outside of the church walls to help make disciples of Christ.


  1. Print
    1. Manage newsletter
    2. Send weekly newsletter by email
    3. Send snail mail Newsletter to congregants without email
    4. Send any special e-mail communication (e.g. death notice, special events, etc.)
    5. Receive and appropriately direct communication from congregants/public
    6. Design and print Bulletins (Sunday, Wedding, Funeral)
    7. Contact Newspaper as needed to advertise services/events
    8. Send out Memorial acknowledgments
  2. Social Media
    1. Oversee a variety of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
    2. Manage and update website
    3. Manage electronic sign on church campus
    4. Design basic app for church member use (optional)
  3. Other
    1. Manage and maintain building Schedule (door locks/HVAC)
    2. Other duties as agreed upon with Senior Pastor


  1. Bachelor’s degree, preferably in design, communication, public relations or marketing OR 3 years relevant work experience
  2. Proficient in contemporary computer software applications – Microsoft Office; Publisher; WordPress
  3. Fluency with all social media platforms
  4. Excellent written and oral communication skills
  5. Self starter with good time management/task prioritization skills
  6. Creative and willing to think outside the box to reach those in our community
