About the Position:
The Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry Education will provide oversight and strategic planning for Perkins School of Theology’s programs for: youth and their families, college-aged young adults, and practitioners who work with these constituencies. This individual will be the point person for connecting SMU Perkins to church and community organizations that work with youth and young adults and their families.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan conferences, training and programs for Perkins School of Youth Ministry, Recruit speakers & presenters, workshops and volunteers. Coordinate details including facilities, catering, scheduling, registration and planning meetings. Manage budget & initiate financial transactions related to the department.
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning in identifying potential students for additional programs offered by the Office of External Programs; in particular, Youth Ministry Certification.
  • Strengthen networks between Perkins School of Theology and practitioners — locally, regionally, and nationally — who work with youth and their families and young adults.
  • Collaborate with the Perkins Office of External Programs to strengthen existing programs and develop new ones.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree is required.

A minimum of one year of work experience in congregational youth and/or young adult ministry is required.  Event planning experience is essential.

Experience in multicultural setting is desirable.

Office and database management is required.  Budget management is preferred.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher) is required.

Experience with event management software, such as Asana, People, or Monday is preferred.

Knowledge of and experience with social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Blogs) is required.

Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Candidate must have excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.   Must also demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in writing.  A strong customer service orientation is essential.

Candidate must possess a working knowledge of church and ministry operations and be able to work in a high volume, detail oriented environment, generating creative, effective event programming.  Knowledge of and appreciation for theology from a Wesleyan perspective is desirable.

Candidate must possess strong time management, organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.  Must also possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems as well as devise solutions.  Attention to detail is essential.

Candidate must be able and willing to work evenings and weekends as required for programs.

Must be able to travel occasionally for training and conferences.
