This is a part time position with most of the time spent on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.

The Music Ministries Director is responsible for all music of the church, including adult, youth, children and other choirs, consulting with other church staff, such as organist, children/youth director, pastor and magnification team to coordinate who directs and accompanies each choir and in all cases upholds the mission of church music as stated above.

The Music Ministries Director is supervised by the pastor in consultation with the Staff Parish Relations Committee.


  • Chancel Choir
    • Conducts the adult chancel choir.
    • Plans all choices of music for all worship services. Informs organist of choral selections in a timely manner.
    • Plans and conducts all rehearsals.
    • Recruits members for the choir.
    • Builds relationships within the choir and congregation, alerts the pastor to any pastoral care concerns in the choir, checks on choir members who are ill, grieving, or absent from choir.
  • Worship Service
    • Participates in the worship services as agreed with the pastor and magnification team.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Administers the budget of the church music program in consultation with the pastor and finance secretary.
    • Prepares an annual music budget to submit to the pastor and Administrative Board.
    • Schedules piano and organ tuning and musical equipment maintenance.
  • Develops New Musical Opportunities
    • Forms other choirs, such as young adult choirs, handbells choirs, etc., as the need and opportunity arises.
    • Makes all of us church’s music assets
    • Recruits volunteers
  • General Responsibilities Is responsible for cataloging and filing all music of the church.
  • Arranges for special music in addition to the regular worship service music, such as solos, instrumentals, etc.
  • Plans and conducts additional music by the various choirs for the holidays, such as Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, and other church seasons such as Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Community Services, Ash Wednesday, and Hanging of the Greens.
  • Must be available on Sundays and major Christian holidays.
  • Is available for counsel for wedding and funerals held in the church in cooperation with appropriate individuals or groups.


  • A committed follower of Jesus Christ who uses music to teach the Gospel.
  • A degree in music performance, music education, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the United Methodist Church’s theology and hymnal or willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Piano skills preferred, but not required.
