The Administrative Assistant for Sylvan Hills UMC is a part-time position (8 hours per week).

Working hours are Mondays and Wednesdays—9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.


  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel)
  • A heart for hospitality and kindness to all who visit the church.  We are an inclusive environment and interact with a diverse population each day.
  • Ability to work on a team of other church staff members.
  • Desire to collaborate with others to provide care to our members and visitors
  • Ability to maintain confidences

Responsibilities include:

  • Hospitality
    • Greeting visitors to the church
    • Assisting members with needs
    • Helping to manage the church calendar of events
  • Communication
    • Answering the phone, checking voicemails, returning missed calls, taking messages for church staff
    • Checking church emails and replying as necessary
    • Sending out newsletter/bulletin to homebound members each week
    • Sorting mail
    • Being responsible for the church newsletter
    • Manage the email distribution lists
    • Design monthly announcements for the narthex screen
  • Worship Bulletin
    • Completing the bulletin each week
    • Communicating with pastor and music staff for details to include
    • Copying bulletin
  • Other Administrative Duties
    • Managing office supplies and ordering supplies as needed
    • Assisting other leadership tasks in the church, i.e. copies for meetings, choir music, United Women in Faith
    • Due to the seasonal nature of the Church Year, some additional duties may be required.  These include extra bulletins and communications. May include extra hours as needed.

Salary is $13.00 per hour.
