On Saturday, February 18, Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church in Little Rock participated for the first time in the SoMardi Gras parade – South on Main’s annual Mardi Gras celebration.
This year’s theme was Superheroes and Supervillians, and we brought along OUR superhero, Big Jesus. In the middle of several Batmen and a slew of Incredibles, we opted for a bit more Biblical dress, wearing togas and dressing as Disciples.
We threw LOTS of beads, candy, lightsticks, and doubloons and blasted “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Jesus is Just All Right With Me”, and “I’ll Take You There” through speakers in the truck bed. We had bubble machines running as well. It was a lot of fun, but also a way to engage with the SoMA community, where the church is located, and a great way to carry the light outside the sanctuary.
