It became clearer to Jesus with each passing hour exactly how things would play out. So he used his final hours to share the heart of God with as much clarity and urgency as possible, even as the political and religious leaders were successfully turning the shouts of “Hosanna!” into hateful hearts that would soon call out “Crucify him.” Imagine how it was with Jesus’ soul in these moments: longing to be utterly faithful, struggling in spite of himself with what God wanted him to do and experiencing great frustration that he seemingly had failed the very people for whom he had come. Sometimes, perhaps too often, it seems as if life is on the cusp of utter failure. But that’s exactly when you should most expect God’s grace to strike – and to strike in the most unexpected way.
