There’s an old question, “Is the glass half-empty or half-full?” It’s a way of assessing your outlook on life. If you answer half-empty, you’re deemed a pessimist or, as so many people would rather say, a realist. If you state that it’s half-full, you’re labeled an optimist. I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but I do know we tend to start with how we feel about the situation we’re in. While that’s natural and to be expected, I think it misses something important. The point is not starting with us and how we deal with things, rather it’s the importance of starting with God. So maybe the best question you can ask in any situation is, “What’s God up to in all of this and how can I get on board?”
