Like every other person of faith, I get angry. Often, it’s for a good reason; like when a person I love is hurt by someone, an individual in power abuses his authority, or a self-righteous individual is being a hypocrite. But more than I would like to admit, it’s because my feelings are hurt, I feel slighted or some vulnerable spot in me is triggered. And when it happens, it bruises my soul. Did you know that God gets angry, too? We don’t talk about it very often because we prefer a loving God. But it’s true. God’s anger, however, is a different kind of anger. It’s righteous anger that is always about something of ultimate significance. Maybe I don’t need to worry nearly as much as I do about getting angry. Maybe I just need to be certain that it’s about those things that really matter to God.
