I’m not bragging, just trying to be honest. I’m not usually a selfish prayer. Most of my prayers are for people who are hurting, grieving, experiencing injustice or vulnerable. Even those I pray for myself are primarily about becoming a more faithful and joy-filled follower of Jesus.
But I’ve noticed that even my least selfish prayers usually include a long list of things I would like You to do. And what You have helped me realize is that they actually are things I expect You to do.
That’s not good – for You, me or those I am praying for. I’m so sorry, Lord. Forgive me. And please help me pray in a new way.
Help me pray even more passionately for others and that Your will gets done in their lives – because You know a whole lot more than I do about Your deepest desires for them. Help me pray even more humbly for myself and that Your will becomes real in my life – because You know a whole lot more than I do about the plans You have for me. Help me pray even more fervently for Your Church and that Your will takes precedence over everything else – because You know much more than I do about what You have called it to be.
Yes, Lord, help me pray even more. Help me pray in a new way. And help me to always do it in the strong and precious name of Jesus.
