Two images have imprinted themselves indelibly on my heart the last 36 hours. The first is of about a dozen Ukrainians kneeling in prayer in the middle of a public area as Russian troops ruthlessly invaded their country. The second is of hundreds of Russians being arrested and brutally manhandled by police for peacefully protesting their nation’s invasion of Ukraine. Both those Ukrainians and Russians are powerless in the face of forces and events over which they have no control. Yet their courageous actions witness to the fact that they believe God is greater than any human power. That is a needed reminder for me. It is also a challenge. May I have the kind of faith that gives me the courage to follow their example every single day.
