Obituary – Mellody Jane Owen Justice

Mellody Jane Owen Justice left our earthly world on January 19, 2022 to run into the loving arms of her Jesus. She was born on January 18, 1949 in Overton, Texas to the late Andrew and Nannie Lee Waller Owen. She was the youngest of 6 children – her brothers and sisters who all preceded her in death – James, Harold, Tommy, Alice Marie and Rosemary.

Mellody married the love of her life, Richard Dale Justice, on July 19, 1969 in Waldo, Arkansas. They were married for 33 years. Together they raised three children who admire them both and feel they were blessed to call them Mom and Dad. She considered herself to have a Simple Faith…she believed in God and that He sent his son to die and wash away her sins. She was one of the kindest, most unselfish women you will ever meet. She loved with her whole heart. Her family was very important to her and she loved them like crazy!!

Mellody was known by many titles – Mom, Mother Dear, Best Friend, Mamaw, Manu & Great-Mamaw. She is survived by her children Lori(Phil) Thurmon, Owen(Holly) Justice and April(Jason) Spahr. Most everyone called her Mamaw and how proud she was of that title!  Her grandchildren are Rachel(Trey) Welch, Sarah(Taylor) Turner, Nathan(Jessica) Marshall, Bryce Justice(Micaela), Megan(River) Thurmon Haley Smith, Corey(Autumn) Haury, Calah Justice, Delaney Polston and Savannah Spahr. Great-grandchildren brought even more joy to her life, they are Harper Welch, Skyler Binder, Matthew Marshall and Miles Turner. She is also survived by nieces and nephews that love her dearly. She also leaves behind her precious dog Pluto, their bond was one of a kind.

Over the past several years, she was part of a wonderful Sunday School class.  This group of friends meant so much to her, she treasured the fellowship and support.

Visitation will be held at Wylie United Methodist Church on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of this beautiful woman’s life will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10 a.m., also at Wylie United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Wylie Cemetery.
