Lord God,

Once again, we are enjoying a Memorial Day Weekend. A time of relaxation. The ‘start’ of summer. Time with family. Cookouts. Catching up on yard work. And so much more.

But there is so much more beyond the so much more of a holiday weekend. It is reality that some in our nation have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy our lives. Some of these were career military. Others, ordinary citizens. But all of them realized that in order for us to be free, we need those who are willing to stand in the breach in a world that sadly still has so much evil, violence and, too often, war.

Help us to not be so caught up in our own blessings that we forget those who have sacrificed for us. Make sure we don’t take our freedom for granted. Keep alive in our hearts those who died while serving our nation and protecting us.

And, most of all, let us never forget.

We pray this in the name of Christ.
