Much discourse right now is based on fanning flames of resentment, demonizing others and embodying a spirit of divisiveness. And to quote a well-known axiom, the system is perfectly designed to get exactly the results it’s producing. Our results are polarization, gridlock, mistrust and, all too often, an inability to deal with the real issues we need to address. Not just in the political realm, but in literally every aspect of life – including the Body of Christ. But think what might happen if those of us who are Jesus’ followers were to show a different way by seeking to live what Jesus says in everything we do: 37 Jesus replied, “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Love him with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and most important commandment. 39 And the second is like it. ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’” (Matthew 22:37-39 NIRV) Does this seem too simple? Maybe. And that’s just the point.
