It is a difficult time. A dangerous time. Our world is so filled with crises, suffering, oppression and violence that it often feels as if we are teetering on the edge of a deep chasm, and it won’t take much for us to fall over the edge and into the abyss.

We confess we are frightened. We confess we sometimes have become so caught up in the polarization all around us that we make it worse instead of acting as peacemakers. But, most of all, we confess that more than ever we need Your hope, Your joy, Your healing, and Your redemption.

We are ready to go to work because we know that the world needs it, too. May the words of the hymn become our prayer – and our work – today and everyday, Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the living God, Fall afresh on me.

We know we can’t do any of what needs to be done alone. So fill us to overflowing with Your Holy Spirit as we plant seeds of the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As we become bearers of healing. As we seek to bring Your justice to a world sorely in need it. As we comfort all those who suffer. As we unleash joy. And as we point to Your hope.

We pray this – and everything – in the strong name of Jesus who is our Savior, Lord, Brother and Friend.
