I am fascinated by all the posts on Facebook of people showing off their decorated Christmas trees. And in the spirit of full disclosure, I admit that I’ve already listened to a couple of Christmas playlists myself. While it may be tempting to decry this early start to Christmas, it’s important to understand why it’s happening. People are looking for the hope they hope Christmas brings – even if it’s weeks before Thanksgiving. But here’s the thing about Christmas hope. It’s not the decorations, music or festivities that bring the hope. It’s what happened at Christmas that ultimately brings hope; the fact that God loves humanity so much God got personally involved in sending Jesus to redeem us into the life God has created us to live. And this reality gives you hope 365 days a year – especially in 2020.
