Think about all that is transpired during 2020 – the Coronavirus pandemic, police killings of black men and women that have unlocked our collective conscience about the ongoing sin of racism, deep polarization in our nation, and the growing sense that life is somehow tumbling chaotically out of control. It’s frightening. It’s exhausting. But perhaps most of all, it’s numbing. You shut down emotionally because it’s simply too overwhelming. There’s something wrong with you if you are experiencing this. In fact, it’s perfectly appropriate. And it’s exactly why you need to cling to the words of the psalmist that are not only comforting, but true, 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. (Psalm 23, KJV)
