It doesn’t matter whether it’s physical, spiritual, relational, financial or emotional. Not surprisingly, we’ll do almost anything to avoid pain. And yet, there are many times the pain that seems so bad actually turns out to be beneficial. Trainers know pain is a sign that runners are getting ready to break through to the next level of endurance. Doctors look for pain because it helps them make a diagnosis. Therapists understand pain is often the best incubator for growth. And while God isn’t responsible for pain, God does use it as a vehicle of grace that enables us to experience healing, grow and become the person God has created each of us uniquely to be. Sure, it’s often excruciatingly difficult and, well, painful. But in the end, we will celebrate how God can turn pain into a gift.
