Covid-19 has turned the world upside down, inside-out and is inflicting pain on millions upon millions. Yet in the midst of this wretched reality, there is horrific pain, poverty and injustice that has continued – children going to bed hungry every night, addicts dying from overdoses, women being abused by those who supposedly love them, and on and on and on. One event in particular, the murder of Ahmaud Arbery, has seared in the conscience of our nation the ongoing reality of racism and its deadly toll that so many people of color experience every single day. You cannot cure Covid, and you certainly cannot fix the world. But if you love Jesus who loves the entire world, you cannot forget those who have become invisible during the pandemic. Pray for them – passionately and every day. Speak on their behalf – even if people don’t want to hear it. And do something that makes a difference – because that’s what Jesus expects.
