Lord,

It hardly seems possible it’s been so many years since that day when our nation was attacked, and thousands of innocents perished, heroism flourished and we watched in disbelief.

We moved from shock to fear to confusion to outrage. Yet we came together as a people and the world stood with us as we mourned. And for a brief moment, the world was one.

We remember that day. We mourn those who were lost. We pray for those whose lives are still shattered. And we vow to stand vigilant for freedom.

Let us arise from the ashes of that devastating day – as well as the destruction that continues to occur around us every day – to become holders of hope, forgivers of the pain, seekers of reconciliation and builders of bridges of understanding.

We pray this in the strong name of Jesus – Amen.
