Dear Lord,

We pray earnestly, try our best to be faithful and seek to do Your will. But once we give it our best, we must admit we come up far too empty far too often.

Maybe, Lord, it’s because we think it’s up to us to craft the right understanding of You, be a fruitful church and get ourselves motivated. Or, maybe, it’s because we really are far more comfortable dealing with ourselves than we ever are with You. In any event, the result is the same. We are a shell of a church instead of the living and breathing Body of Christ You need us to be in our broken and battered world.

We pray on this Day of Pentecost that you will send Your Holy Spirit to fuel us with Your vision, power and love until we become the church You call us to be.

Come, Holy Spirit, come. Today. Tomorrow. And forevermore.
