Sometimes it seems impossible to find a way forward. Exclusion, pain, deep differences, new realities, and dashed hopes and dreams all come together in a complex hairball that seems only capable of suffocating those caught in it. This is what it means to be human in the fullness and frailness of that humanity. So what do we do? We pray deeply and powerfully for every single person who is hurting – not in a glib or obligatory way, but because we really do hurt because they are hurting. We pray diligently to be purged of our own arrogance and pride. And we pray unceasingly in seeking God’s Will, because it so often turns out to be different than our own. This is not easy work. But it is how God calls us to live. And God is with us as we undertake it.
