It’s the day after. The mid-term elections have been (mostly) decided. Some of us are happy, others sad. But now it’s time for the winners to govern. Not as partisans or candidates already looking ahead to the next election, but as stewards. This means seeking reconciliation in a fractured country, speaking hope instead of heated words, seeking the common good, and aspiring to our highest ideals and not our meanest nature. This big task is not theirs alone. It’s also ours. So join me in praying for those who lead, in setting aside our own rhetoric that tears down instead of builds up, and in working to bring the blessings of our beloved nation to all who live here.
