War drums are beating in Syria. Opioids are destroying families. Too many children go to bed hungry every night.
The complexity of it all is overwhelming. What is right? What is faithful, just and moral?
I must confess I am torn and confused. As a citizen – but even more as a person of faith. So, Lord, I do what I should do far more often. I pray. Not just to convince you of my solution. But to pray for peace in an atmosphere of hatred. Justice in all of the suffering. Healing in the midst of brokenness. Hope in utter hopelessness. And to actually listen for your voice.
I know it seems this simple act will not accomplish anything. But I know it is the most important thing I can do right now. So have mercy, Lord. Have mercy.
I pray this in Jesus’ name – Amen.
