So often my prayer is “Save me! Save me from pain, hurt and suffering! Save me from things I don’t want to experience! Save me when I mess up!”

But I’ve come realize something, Lord, even if I only get it partially and imperfectly. Too often I put myself at the center of the universe. Too often I think I can prod, coerce or trick You into doing my will. And too often I make it clear I’m far more important than You.

So please, Lord, please. Save me from a life apart from You. Save me from self-centeredness. Save me from shallowness. And most importantly, save me from me – and save me to You.

I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
