Today, young people in Washington, D.C. and across the nation are literally marching for their lives in the face of the scourge of gun deaths occurring in schools. They feel adults, particularly elected leaders, have acted – and continue to act – in ways that leave them unsafe while sitting in classrooms. It’s easy to say the issue is complicated since it involves constitutional, mental health, political, cultural and moral components. Quite frankly, it is. But there is one haunting question that cannot be ignored just because it’s complicated. It’s a question with which each one of us needs to wrestle.
