Pay close attention and you’ll notice that Christmas is beginning to disappear right before your eyes. Soon it will only be a memory – except for the bills and extra pounds! But the Good News of a Great Joy is that Christmas is just the beginning. Christ has come to us as one of us to give us the gift of God’s unconditional, forgiving, transforming, hope-filled and eternal love. This is a gift that can’t be limited to a day, a season or holiday traditions. Ii is reality that you get to experience every single day.
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” (Luke 2:10-14)
The birth of a baby long ago.
Adoring parents. Angels praising. Magi traveling.
We decorate, shop and celebrate.
There’s so much more than meets the eye.
Good News of a Great Joy.
We look and see God with us.
But it’s hard to comprehend.
So difficult to conceive.
We struggle with unanswered questions.
The miracle of Christmas remains undisturbed.
It’s as real now as then.
We receive what we can never get on our own.
Christ has come, is here and will come again.
Life is forever changed.
We join the angels’ chorus.
Glory to God in the Highest!
It’s the day before the day before. The signs of the season are everywhere you look – lights, music, parties, food and shopping, shopping and more shopping. But there is so much you don’t see beneath the glitz – broken hearts, grief, addiction, loneliness and hopelessness. Often in others, but sometimes in you. This is why it’s time to begin your journey to that stable in Bethlehem, find shelter with the animals and get ready for the heart of Christmas – how God became human to give you life that is abundant and eternal.
God offers you exactly the gifts you need at exactly time you need them in exactly the way you need them. But God also continually gives you four ordinary-extraordinary gifts that empower you to live each day exactly how God dreams. Perpetual love lets you experience how God loves you just the way you are, but will never leaves you that way. Powerful faith allows you to trust God with the entirety of your heart, mind, soul and strength. Profound joy fills you with yearnings sweeter than happiness, giddiness, surprise and glee all put together. Persistent hope unleashes you to live each moment knowing nothing that happens in life or in death ever can separate you from God’s love in Jesus.
