My heart is breaking today because of the venom and hatred that was unleashed yesterday in Charlottesville by Nazi, alt-right and white supremacist groups.
But there’s more. And I don’t like it. But it’s real. And so I must confess I’m more than just heart-broken.
I’m angry that this is happening in our nation in which so many people profess to be Christians. I’m frightened at how easily I can justify my own hate that grows out of righteous indignation. And I am saddened at how I teeter towards hopelessness in the face of a world that seems to be careening out of control.
So, Lord, forgive me. Enable me to trust that Jesus’ unconditional, transformational and invitational love is always enough. And give me the courage to commit myself to act as a peacemaker Jesus calls blessed.
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
