You long to share God’s love in real lives in real ways that make a real difference. But sometimes you wonder just what you should do. That’s the moment you need to start listening to God’s heart with your heart – because you will discover what God wants you to do. It may be something so small you wonder how it can make any difference at all. Or something so huge you wonder how you can possibly do it. But you can and you will – big or small. And not at some distant point in the future. But right now. So step out of your comfort zone. Be God’s hands, feet, mouth and heart in the world. And discover how you can do more than you ever thought you could, change lives more than you ever thought you could and discover what it means to live life that is truly abundant more than you ever thought you could.
You may be lost, however God will always find you. Sense that you’re about to be overwhelmed by something you don’t know how to handle, but God will always be your firm foundation. And believe you don’t matter to anyone, yet God will always do whatever it takes so you can experience how eternally precious you are to God. So why does God always act like this? The reason is very simple. It’s how much God loves you. In fact, God loves you so much that you can never do anything to make God love you any more or any less than God already does. All of this may seem so utterly impossible that the only way you can make sense of it is to call it a miracle. Well guess what? That’s exactly what it is. A miracle you can experience with every breath that you take.
If you’re a person of faith who thinks you know what God wants, it’s easy – and oh so tempting – to become judgmental about what others believe, say or do. But what if you made a conscious decision to change the way you do things and made it a priority to focus on yourself instead of others? Not in a self-centered, selfish and egotistical way that puts you right smack dab in the middle of the universe. But in a way that makes sure you’re doing all you can to be faithful, act with integrity and deal gracefully with others in everything you do. If you’re able to do this, you’ll make a monumental discovery. You’ll be more faithful. Others will be more grace-filled. And God will be able to see God’s will done on earth just as it is in heaven.
Life won’t always work out the way you want. Tragedies so painful will occur that you can’t bear them. And some things simply can’t be fixed regardless of how hard you try. But you can always hold onto hope. This is not wishful thinking, a dream or some sort of religious fantasy. It is reality. Absolute reality. It doesn’t matter how alone you feel, God is loving you more than you can ever imagine. It doesn’t matter how horrible things get, God is reaching out to offer you forgiveness, healing and new possibilities. It doesn’t matter how powerless you feel, God is giving you a brand new future. Sure, it means trusting when there are things you can’t control, living without having all the answers ahead of time and daring to be bold when you are afraid. But you can do it – because God is holding you every single moment of your life.
You plan, make a commitment, go out on a limb, act and then watch something incredible happen. Of course you’re proud of what you’ve done. And you should be. But you should also remember something. God has been at work before you ever got involved. In fact, if the truth be known, you simply wandered into the midst of what God was already doing and were blessed to have the opportunity to tag along with God. That’s nothing to feel down about. In fact, it’s an important reminder that it’s a privilege to be asked by God to serve, a privilege to be involved in God’s work and a privilege to help God transform lives, communities and the world. So don’t spend your life trying to do it on your own. Look for God, discern what God’s up to and get on board with God.
