Some days are simply awesome. Others force you to face your limitations, deal with pain and face more uncertainty than you could ever imagine. However both are God’s gift to you. And ultimately that’s what matters most about every day – good, bad or in-between – because it means you can experience the fullness of God’s love regardless of what’s going on in your life, have a brand new beginning every single day and discover the power of God’s hope regardless of what you’re going through. You may wonder whether this is really possible because you know all too well how many times you fall short. Well, it is. It really is. And all you have to do to experience it is take a God-powered leap of faith and start acting like you really do believe God’s love is bigger than everything else in life.
What do you want when you wake up every morning? Probably to get through the day; keep all the moving parts of your life in sync; deal with tough and painful issues that are tearing up your soul; have meaningful relationships and enjoy life; be comfortable financially; take another step in achieving your dreams; and be liked, successful and respected. But if you’re really honest, you also know deep in your soul that getting what you think you want isn’t enough. In fact, it’s never enough. That’s because you have a deeper want – even if you don’t know it yet. This is your soul’s want and it is simply to be in relationship with the One who created you, pursues you relentlessly and loves you more than you can ever know. And once you make this the most important want of your life, you’ll discover that you will never want for anything.
Once upon a time you were filled with hopes and dreams, inspired and energized, and truly optimistic about the future. Maybe you still are. If so, good for you! But there’s also a good chance you’re worn out, a bit cynical and jaded, and too often just going through the motions of life. If so, you need a good dose of God – and you need it right now. The good – actually great – news is that God is just waiting to give you the exact dose you need right now. You don’t need to be good enough for it. You don’t need to be ‘good enough’ to get it, and you certainly can never earn it. Which is exactly what makes it such an amazing gift. So just do what only you can do: receive what God longs to give you and then go where it takes you.
I believe in You, love You and do everything I can to serve You.
But, Lord, there are moments when I see the truth and realize I need to believe in You even more, love You even more and serve You even more.
After all, what else can I do when You love me the way You do? What else can I do when You always reach out to me when I need it most? What else can I do when You continue to patiently shape and mold me, never giving up on me?
Yet too often I don’t do the very thing I most need to do – fail to go all in. So here I am, Lord. Ready. Willing. Able. Please send Your Holy Spirit. Right here. Right now. Right into my life. And help me truly be the me You have created me to be.
It’s a hard word to hear. Maybe even harder to absorb. But you’ve still got to come to grips with the reality that life doesn’t always work out the way you want. It’s not because you’re unfaithful, a sinner or (especially) because it’s God’s will. It’s just that bad, painful and even tragic stuff is going to happen in a world in which God has made freedom so important, because freedom is inherently risky. Which is exactly why it’s critical for you to remember that none of the bad stuff that happens is ever the final word in your life. There is always something more: God’s grace, healing, transformation and hope. So start spending a whole lot less time trying to figure out why bad stuff is happening and a whole lot more time looking for what God is doing with it!
