Church Administrator – Quapaw Quarter UMC Little Rock

Quapaw Quarter United Methodist Church in downtown Little Rock, AR, has an opening for a Church Administrator effective immediately. Part-time position, M-Th, 8:30a-12:30p. 

This essential position requires excellent communication and organizational skills. The Church Administrator works closely with the pastor, paid and volunteer staff, and members of the congregation and public. Maintains facility use and program calendar; works with the pastor and designated trustees to schedule facility usage within policy guidelines; bills outside groups for facility rent or other expenses; maintains leases for studio rentals; arranges for building/grounds maintenance under guidance of Senior Pastor and Board of Trustees; works with pastor and committees to schedule volunteers as needed for special events and/or administrative support; coordinates with brides and bridal parties on upcoming weddings; answers and directs telephone calls in a timely and appropriate manner; prepares and prints worship bulletins for Sundays and special occasions; prepares and sends out weekly “Now Happening” email newsletter; maintains current list of joys and concerns as received along with prayer requests for pastoral prayer; prepares and/or generates correspondence and assists with mailings; receives and processes incoming mail; serves as administrative support for Senior Pastor, Music Director, and Leadership Team; maintains office supplies and good order in the office area; assists the Membership/Communications Secretary with ACS software; enters attendance information and generates requested reports; monitors video surveillance system; exercises proper discretion in response to door traffic; maintains major committee minutes in an easily accessible location; performs other duties as assigned by pastor and  appropriate committees. 

Requires familiarity with PC and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of web, blogging, and social media a plus.

Job Summary:
As a director, this position works closely with the pastor in planning worship services. This position is also responsible for developing and growing a comprehensive music program to include choirs, hand bells, and ensembles for all age groups in accordance with policies, standards, as well as guidelines and regulations governing our church. Grand Avenue’s goal is to offer ministry opportunities for individuals to become involved in the life of the church while growing in their faith. Active participation in the life of Grand Avenue UMC is expected. The director will be required to work twenty hours a week including Sundays, Wednesdays and any special worship services and programs. Office hours are required. Competitive salary depending on experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or Experience:
A bachelor’s degree is preferred. The director must possess adequate skill and experience in vocal and choral music. Successful experience in a similar environment of three to five years or more is preferred. Combinations of alternate education and experience will be considered.

Part-time Choir Director – Wesley UMC – Fort Smith, AR

Wesley United Methodist Church (Fort Smith, AR) is seeking a part-time choir director to work with both our vocal performers and our handbell choir. Depending on the skills and passions of the applicant, there may also be an opportunity to serve as a worship leader in our contemporary service.

Duties include:

  • Directing our chancel choir
  • Directing our bell choir
  • Choosing music in consultation with the pastor and accompanist
  • Preparing special performances such as a Christmas and Easter Cantata
  • Leading weekly Wednesday night practices and directing in Sunday morning worship
  • Availability for High Holy Days (i.e. Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, and Easter)
  • Other duties as determined by Pastor and Staff Supervisors

Required skills include:

  • Formal music training, including ability to read music
  • Capacity to motivate and nurture volunteer musicians
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Ability to work with a variety of musical skill levels
  • Openness to Christian beliefs

Ideal skills include:

  • Ability to play a musical instrument (preferably guitar/organ/piano)
  • Interest in and capacity to lead worship
  • Degree in music education or music performance

Business Assistant – First UMC Conway

The person filling this role will lead the congregation in singing, praising, and connecting with God through contemporary Christian music during weekly worship service; lead all aspects of the contemporary worship team, including band, sound, and AV; recruit new members and expand worship team roles to create overlap to ensure continuity when members are missing; hold a minimum of 1 weekly rehearsal and 1 warm up session on Sunday prior to the service; create excitement and a spiritually enriching environment to increase attendance and grow membership from the surrounding community; assist with the planning and overseeing of special worship services that include music; and develop media for weekly services, including song lyrics, video clips, and all elements of production for the contemporary worship service

Intern, Hendrix College Office of the Chaplain

The Office of the Chaplain at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas seeks a full-time (35 hours a week) United Methodist seminary intern for the 2017-2018 academic year who will assist with religious life on campus including worship, communion, community meals, small groups, service-learning trips, and an intentional Christian community. Additional duties for the Chaplain of the College fall under “vocational discernment” with significant grants given to the college from the Lilly Endowment to help youth discerning a call to ministry, aid early career clergy in developing pastoral identity, and mentor college students who are discerning a call to professional and ordained ministry. The Chaplain Intern would also assist with weekly programmatic needs for various constituencies of the College, and be mentored by the Chaplain in the process of helping young people discern a call to ministry. The Chaplain serves as the internship supervisor. Compensation is a $15,000 stipend that will cover housing, expenses, and benefits.
