We are looking for a Christ-centered person who is passionate about youth ministry and can lead young people into Christian discipleship. This pastor will build a team of parents, volunteers and paid staff to create an exciting and welcoming faith community where youth can build relationships with other youth and their families and nurture their relationship with Christ. 

Qualifications for this position include a strong, personal faith in Christ, as well as strong teaching, relational, management, and organizational skills.  Interested candidates should have a college degree and at least two years of paid, full-time experience in youth ministry. A successful track record of ministry in a large church setting would be an ideal qualification. Salary will be commensurate with your experience and level of qualifications.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Oversee the Youth Ministry by building a team that works together to achieve the mission and goals of the Youth Ministry.

  3. Sustain existing programs in a creative way and initiate new programs that encourage youths to strengthen their relationships with Christ and each other.
  4. Provide opportunities for youth to reach out into the wider community with service projects and missions.
  5. Assure that the administrative and support functions necessary to the flourishing of this ministry are carried out in a timely and professional manner. This includes maintaining a social media presence, utilizing and developing different mediums of communication with students and parents, and working with the communications director to maintain branding and publicity.

Position Description:              

The Little Lambs Learning Center is a mission of the First United Methodist Church of Morrilton, AR. Its purpose is to provide a happy and safe environment and provide physical, social, mental, emotional and spiritual care for children within a loving atmosphere. The Director is a full-time position who manages the operation and activities of the Little Lambs Learning Center in according to the policies and procedures established by the Learning Center Council, First United Methodist Church, and the applicable laws of the State of Arkansas.

Qualifications:

The Director shall be an active member of a Christian church and meet the minimum licensing requirements for directors of child care centers as set forth by the Arkansas Department of Human Services. The Director shall be an energetic, creative, and caring individual. The Director shall have excellent communication skills and a willingness to interact with children, parents, teachers, the staff and pastor of First United Methodist Church. The Director shall seek to grow personally and professionally through continuing education.

Supervision:

The Director is employed by the Staff Parish Relations Committee of the First United Methodist Church and reports to the Learning Center Council regarding the activities of the Center for day-to-day operations and special events.

Responsibilities of the position: 

  1. Craft a relevant vision for the Center, within the context of the mission set by Church leadership, and the needs of the community.     
  2. Oversee and guide the day-to-day operations of the Center.
  3. Ensure that the Center exceeds the minimum licensing requirements for child care centers as specified by the Arkansas Department of Human Services.
  4. Maintain all personnel records of staff, enrollment records, and records of shots, permission slips, etc. for all children enrolled at the Center.
  5. Cultivate and ensure a Christian, caring, and safe environment for the children of the school.
  6. Develop and manage budgets, in consultation with the Learning Center Council, to ensure the most effective use of financial resources.
  7. Review applications for staff positions and interview top candidates for hire. Salaries are based on the pay scale established by the Learning Center Council and Staff Parish Relations Committee.
  8. Supervise the staff of the Center, including ongoing observations, evaluations, and assisting staff in maintaining continuing education hours.
  9. Communicate regularly with parents and guardians, teachers of Center, and Pastor of FUMC.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older
  • Proficient with personal computer and software, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form 
  • A willingness to learn and adhere to the policies, procedures, and theology of the UMC
  • An obvious love of children and the necessary persona to build relationships with children
  • Must provide documentation of one of the following educational levels:
    • Bachelor’s Degree or higher Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in a non-related field from a regionally accredited college or university plus one of the following:
      • Four years of experience in Early Childhood Education,
      • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA),
      • Birth-PreK Credential;
  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field, plus six (6) years of experience in Early Childhood Education.
  • Eight years of experience in Early Childhood Education and completion of one of the following within two years of employment:
    • Child Development Associate Credential
    • Birth – PreK Credential
    • Director’s Credential or the equivalent
    • Technical Certificate in Early Childhood Education

Director of Children’s Ministry – Woods Chapel United Methodist Church

This person must be positive and energetic with the ability to build, lead, and empower volunteer teams, have excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability, and understand children’s ministry trends. S/he must be a team player with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and pay attention to detail. This person will report to the Family Ministries Pastor.

DIRECTOR OF YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS

The Youth director is an employee of Asbury United Methodist Church, with the right of employment and dismissal being with the Staff Parish Relations Committee and the Senior Pastor.

GENERAL ROLE:

The Youth Director provides the youth and their families the opportunities for spiritual growth in worship, fellowship and service.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • Will be intentional about personally sharing and offering the good news of Jesus Christ with the youth associated with AUMC and with those outside the church.
  • Will intentionally design ministries that target unchurched youth in our communities.
  • Will provide an intentional disciple making process that will produce devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.
  • Responsible for planning, coordinating and directing youth (grades 6 through 12)   activities.
  • Works with the Youth Council and parents to secure help and leadership in planning and developing a comprehensive year-round program.
  • Guides the youth in being active, participating and giving members of the Asbury United Methodist Church community. Also encourages them to participate in the  district and conference youth programs.
  • Recruits, trains and coordinates counselors for the youth ministry.
  • Plans and coordinates mission trips and all fund raising events.
  • Ensures proper adult supervision and provides leadership training (including safe sanctuary training and background checks) for adult and youth teachers.
  • Be accessible to the youth and parents for counseling and other forms of personal support.
  • In consultation with Senior Pastor and Director of Children’s Ministries, coordinate the Youth Program with Children’s Sunday school, Confirmation Class, and other programs to ensure continuity.
  • Encourages all youth to attend Sunday school.
  • Recruits and trains Youth Sunday school teachers.
  • Consults with Senior Pastor and Praise and Worship regarding music and music related programs for youth.
  • Assists the Minister of Children in planning Vacation Bible School as related to youth participation.
  • Prepares and Leads Confirmation Program each year.
  • Coordinates youth calendar, use of the building, and use of the church equipment with the administrative staff.
  • Follows financial policies and procedures, develops an annual budget, and manages youth expenditures within approved annual budget levels.
  • Publishes weekly Youth newsletter via email and internet to youth and parents.
  • Communicates information to proper staff person regarding youth birth dates, names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, name of school attending, and grade level for church data base.
  • Assists in planning events, activities, and missions for the Young Adult group, in cooperation with the needs and desires of the class.
  • Recruits and nurtures current Young Adult attendees, and reaches out to inactive Young Adults.
  • Coordinates Young Adult Sunday School and/or Bible Study, including recruiting teachers and helping select curriculum, in cooperation with the needs and desires of the class.
  • Serves as staff liaison to college students, and nurtures those connections.
  • Plans college events, outreach, and Bible studies, in cooperation with the needs and desires of the group.
  • Webmaster and Facebook administrator.
  • Updates Assigned Bulletin Boards
  • Assists in sending out church-wide communication through email systems, such as Constant Contact and Robly, as needed or pertaining to youth ministry area.  

SKIILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Prefer Bachelors degree with background in Christian Education or equivalent work experience. This person needs to be a role model who lives a life in a manner consistent with the doctrine of the United Methodist Church. Must be eager, enthusiastic and genuine. Willing to make a commitment to the youth and to Asbury United Methodist Church. Able to gain the trust and respect of the youth, parents, and the congregation.
