Arkansas UMC Tornado Response

Update September 4, 2014

Long-term recovery: skilled labor needed for smaller projects
Long Term Recovery in Central Arkansas has some smaller projects that need skilled construction labor. A leader who knows how to build and some helpers would be great. Most of these projects involve porches, steps, ramps or storage sheds. Some involve roof repair or building roof-overs.
If you can help, contact Janice Mann at disaster@arumc.org or 870-703-8359.

"Glory Sighting"  - In their report to the South Central Jurisdiction, Janice & Byron Mann write that more than 4,000 volunteer hours have been given thus far to aid the residents of Ferndale, Mayflower, Vilonia and other affected areas.  Teams began work within 12 hours following the storm and have come from Arkansas, Kentucky, North Carolina with offers as far away as Wisconsin.  The Spiritual and Emotional Care Team has been on the ground and continues to be available for whatever is needed. Every day these individuals spend in service is a day God is a visible, hopeful presence in these places of great loss.

Giving to others - As we have received a great outpouring of prayer, gifts and service, so can we bless those affected by tornadoes, flooding, fires and other natural disasters. Consider taking up a special UMCOR offering designated for "U.S.Disaster Response Advance # 901670" and mail it to Advance GCFA, P. O. Box 9068, New York, NY 10087-9068.  Or make an online gift to UMCOR for disaster response.

Volunteers - the need for clean-up volunteers is easing with enough teams scheduled or on standby to finish the projects currently on our list. To volunteer for Long-term Recovery (repair and rebuild) complete an online volunteer form. Someone will contact you to arrange a date for you or your group to participate.

Supplies - There are currently enough relief supplies to cover needs for some time.
  • If you have already collected UMCOR Supplies (tornado tubs, empty tubs, tarps, and UMCOR kits such as health kit etc.) please take them to the Arkansas Rice Depot, 3801 W. 65th Street, Little Rock, 8 am - 4 pm, Monday through Friday.
  • All other items may be delivered to the Donation Warehouse in Conway. Please call (214) 287-8386 to arrange a date and time for delivery.
Long-term Recovery Needs: Please check online at www.arumc.org as supply needs will be posted there as they are received.

Volunteer Housing - while many of our teams are local, having a list of available housing options is optimal as outside groups may need assistance.  Churches and individuals who can offer volunteer housing, contact communications@arumc.org and you will receive a link for an online form to complete.
