Prairie Grove FUMC Worship Leader

Purpose and Focus:

 The purpose of the praise and worship leader is to create, provide for, and encourage the worship experience during the contemporary service on Sunday mornings through music, singing, prayer, scripture reading, teaching, audio and visual components, and other means as needed to prepare the congregation’s hearts and minds for spending time with God as the body of Christ.

Knowledge and Abilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.   • Be a committed follower of Jesus Christ that seeks to know, love, and server God
  • Understand and be able to work towards the churches mission and vision
  • Show proficiency in guitar, piano, or other instruments and can lead a worship experience through that instrument
  • Show proficiency in being able to sing and harmonize while also being able to direct or teach others in doing so
  • Show a knowledge of modern worship music, traditional hymns, and secular songs appropriate for a worship setting
  • Be able to relate to a multi-generational congregation in worship
  • Have excellent oral communication skills
  • Be well organized
  • Have a high level of initiative, motivation, and enthusiasm
  • Be proficient with basic PC software (e-mail, MS Office, internet) and essential worship software (i.e. Media Shout)
  • Be able to recruit, motivate, lead, encourage, and teach members of the praise team
  • Be able to motivate, lead, encourage, and teach the congregation in new songs and worship

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Select songs for Sunday morning worship 
  • Run off song sheets in the appropriate keys and arrangements prior to practices
  • Arrange the stage as needed each week
  • Lead practice weekly (currently on Thursday nights at 6:00 pm)
  • Lead rehearsal prior to the worship service (currently at 8:00 am on Sunday mornings)
  • Lead the congregation in worship during the contemporary service (currently 9:00 am on Sunday mornings)
  • Recruit, train, encourage, organize, and schedule musicians and vocalists
  • Keep the stage and worship storage areas clean and presentable at all times
