Arkansas Conference Response to Hurricane Harvey

August 28, 2017

Please continue to be in prayer for our neighbors in Texas and Louisiana who are in the midst of historic flooding associated with Hurricane Harvey. We pray for all those who have been affected and we commit to being Jesus’ presence in the coming days and months as we join them in the rebuilding of lives and communities.

Our conference disaster coordinators, Janice & Byron Mann are in contact with their partners in those states as well as with our United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) officials and will coordinate the Arkansas Conference’s response.

They urge Arkansas United Methodists to give emergency response teams such rescue teams, medical, law enforcement, and fire personnel the time and space to do their work.  The storm is still ongoing and trying to enter affected areas will complicate and possibly endanger those teams. Our teams will begin their work as soon as we receive authorization to enter damaged areas.

Watch the Volunteers in Mission and Disaster Response Facebook group (https://tinyurl.com/yctyk269) postings for the latest updates, how the Arkansas Conference is responding and how you can help.

Please do not try to contact the affected areas. Inquiries should be made through Byron and Janice per UMCOR/VIM protocol.

Those who wish to support the recovery efforts financially may send gifts to the Arkansas Conference, 800 Daisy Bates Drive, Little Rock, AR 72202, memo line: Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
Donations may also be sent to UMCOR as it responds to this and other disasters in the US by giving to UMCOR’s US Disaster Response Advance #901670.
