Why Today is Called Good Friday

Why did Jesus die on a cross along with two thieves in what amounted to a garbage dump? Certainly the religious establishment was threatened, political leaders didn’t want a ‘situation’ to develop that would draw Rome’s attention and Judas betrayed him. But something far more important was going on as well. Jesus was willing to do whatever it took to offer humanity what we absolutely need, but can never get on our own. And God was committed to taking the worst possible thing that happened and use it for God’s purposes. Maybe that’s why today is called Good Friday.
